2012 JUMONVILLE CHALLENGE/ROPES COURSE WORKSHOP

URCB’S ROLE IN THE PROCESS
Universal Ropes Course Builders, Inc. is accredited as a Professional Vendor Member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology, which has reviewed and approved the Company as a provider of practitioner certification. Universal Ropes Course Builders, Inc. has been approved to offer training and certification at all levels and all tracks outlined in the ACCT Practitioner Certification Standards.

THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS
The intent of the certification process is to raise the level of the standard of practice in the industry and to provide uniformity. Certification is a credential held by an individual and indicating that the individual has completed certain trainings and passed written and practical skills tests that meet the specific standards as established by the ACCT.

LEVELS:
The following levels of certification are being offered at the 2012 Jumonville Conference:
Level I: Level I is an entry level of certification for practitioners. It assumes no facilitation experience prior to an initial training course.
Level II: Level II is the intermediate level of certification for practitioners. It assumes a solid base of program delivery experience prior to taking a level II certification training course.

TRACKS:
The following tracks of certification are available within the above levels of certification:
Full Certification: Includes all of the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate high and spotted activities using a variety of operating systems. This track is transferable to other facilities or programs. Participant will need to pass BOTH High Elements Only and Spotted Elements Only Tests in order to obtain FULL certification at the conference.
Spotted Activities Only: Includes all of the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate spotted activities. This track is transferable to other facilities or programs with spotted activities only.
High Activities Only: Includes all of the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate high activities using a variety of operating systems. This track is transferable to other facilities or programs with high activities only.

SCHEDULING:

MONDAY: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM High Ropes Level Iand II Technical Skills Refresher/Test Prep

• This is a training day for the novice through experienced high ropes practitioner.
• Practical skills covered in this training include belaying, rappelling, course access, traversing elements on self-belayed systems (i.e. lobster claws), creating acceptable belay anchors, belaying, rappelling, and knot tying.
• Specific attention will be given to items that the practitioner must know prior to taking a certification test.
• There is no obligation to take the test if you attend this Training Day.
• Enrollment limited to 50
• COST $60.00

TUESDAY: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Level I or II – High Elements Only Certification Test

• This test will be a Challenge-In Format
• Test consists of Written Test, Practical skills test and presentation of a portfolio documenting cumulative total hours of high ropes training. (20 hours are required at Level I and 44 hours are required at Level II)
• Practical skills at Level I include, but are not limited to: course access, traversing elements on self-belayed systems (i.e. lobster claws), creating acceptable belay anchors, belaying, rappelling, and knot tying.
• Practical skills at Level II requires all of the skills of Level I plus: belay escape rescue, two-person rescue, single person rescue, and zipline rescue.
• Enrollment limited to 20
• The separate cost for the certifcation test is $100.00 and is not included in the headstart seminar that is offered on Monday for $60.

WEDNESDAY: 9:00 AM-12:30 PM Level II – Spotted Elements Only Certification Test
• This test will be a Challenge-In Format
• Test consists of Written Test, Practical skills test and presentation of a portfolio documenting at least 44 cumulative total hours of spotted elements training.
• Practical skills at this level include, but are not limited to: Assessment for necessity of spotting, effectiveness at spotting, communication systems for spotted elements, sequencing, facilitation, and daily course use inspection and documentation.
• Enrollment limited to 30
• COST: $60.00

WEDNESDAY: 1:30PM-5:00PM Challenge Course Manager Refresher Training/Test Prep
• This is a training day for the novice through experienced challenge course practitioner.
• The focus will be on collaboration to expand the practitioners’ ability to use varied approaches while managing a challenge course.
• Specific attention will be given to items that the practitioner must know prior to taking a certification test.
• There is no obligation to take the CCM test if you attend this Training Session.
• The prerequisite for the CCM test is Level 2 Certification in any track.
• Enrollment limited to 30
• COST: $40.00

THURSDAY: 9:00AM-12:30PM Level II – Challenge Course Manager Certification Test

• This test will be a Challenge-In Format
• Candidates for the CCM certification must posess a current level 2 certification in any track.
• Test consists of Written Test, Practical skills test and presentation of a portfolio documenting at least 30 hours of management training (16 hours of which must be specific to challenge courses – The CCM Test Prep session at Jumonville can count towards this total.
• NO TECHNICAL SKILLS ARE EVALUTED in the CCM testing process. Practical skills at this level include, but are not limited to: Risk Management, Course supervision and operation, client care, human resource management, documentation, and equipment management
• Participants taking the 20 hour Low Ropes training during the conference may take this test to be a candidate for Level 1 Spotted Elements Only certification.
• Enrollment limited to 30
• COST: $60.00

THURSDAY: 1:30PM-5:00PM Level I – Spotted Elements Only Certification Test
• This test will be a Challenge-In Format
• Candidates for the CCM certification must posess a current level 2 certification in any track.
• Test consists of Written Test, Practical skills test and presentation of a portfolio documenting at least 30 hours of management training (16 hours of which must be specific to challenge courses – The CCM Test Prep session at Jumonville can count towards this total.
• NO TECHNICAL SKILLS ARE EVALUTED in the CCM testing process. Practical skills at this level include, but are not limited to: Risk Management, Course supervision and operation, client care, human resource management, documentation, and equipment management
• Participants taking the 20 hour Low Ropes training during the conference may take this test to be a candidate for Level 1 Spotted Elements Only certification.

ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
An Individual seeking certification is responsible for providing specific information that documents his or her skills, training, and experience to Universal Ropes Course Builders. A minimum number of hours of training is required for all certifications. A minimum number of hours of program experience is required for some levels of certification. Participants seeking certification must submit a copy of a portfolio documenting required training and program experience to Universal Ropes Course Builders, Inc., NO LATER THAN ONE WEEK PRIOR to the certification testing event. Universal Ropes Course Builders will verify information supplied in the training portfolio, and will contact random references listed in the portfolio to verify that information is accurate. If the information in the portfolio is deemed incomplete or unacceptable, Universal Ropes Course Builders will contact the practitioner and discuss measures to resolve the documentation requirement. All portfolios supplied to Universal Ropes Course Builders WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Please provide copies to us and retain your original records. TESTING
Certification candidates must score at least 80% on a written knowledge test that includes content related to the standards for the level at which they seek certification. Candidates must also pass a practical skills test on skills related to the standards for the level at which they seek certification. All competencies of the practical skills test must be passed.

RE-TESTING POLICY

Universal Ropes Course Builders has adopted the following policy regarding retesting for certification testing failures:
A. Written Test:
a. Participants who score below the 80% level on the written exam will be given an opportunity to take ONLY the written exam portion at another time within three months of the original test date.
b. Participants who fail the written exam on the second administration will be required to complete both the practical and written test sections again.
B. Practical Skills Test:
a. Participants who score below 80% of the practical skills tested OR who fail to pass a required practical skill tested, will be given the opportunity to retake the practical skills they did not pass within three months of the original test date.
b. Participants who do not meet 80% of the practical skills tested or who fail required practical skill on the second administration will be required to complete both the practical and written test sections again.
C. For All test Sections:
a. Participants who fail a test for a certification level three times will be required to re-take the required training content and number of training hours for the level they are seeking before taking the certification test again.
