An "Angel" Leaves a Significant Gift

This kind of planning and thoughtful giving is making the difference between reaching our goal and falling short!

cattley family

A photo of the Cattley Family taken at this past October’s Jumonville Sponsor’s Dinner. Pictured in photo from left to right are daughter Denise, Jim Cattley, daughter in law Melinda and son David.
Both Jim and Ruth Cattley served faithfully for many years on the Jumonville Board of Directors, as well as various committees of the board. Rarely did Jim or Ruth ever miss a scheduled meeting. It was obvious that they both took their commitment to service for Jumonville very seriously. They were always very generous in sharing with their time, their talents and their treasure. Ruth was always very soft spoken and seemed to be most at home when she was behind the keyboard and accompanying group singing. It seemed you could name any song and she would know it by heart. You didn’t have to be around Ruth long to know that she had a very deep and sincere faith in her Lord Jesus. While Ruth didn’t say much about her faith, she lived her faith by her everyday actions. Ruth was always kind and gentle and very compassionate toward others. When she was here this summer during CAT week, she made a point of telling Jaye and I that she had decided not to take any more chemo. She said she was at peace with her decision, and knew where she was going. There were some tears, especially when Denise walked in, too. But, even though it was a sad moment, she was sure and strong and very much at peace. Her memory will live on in the kind, gentle, strong spirit she shared with all of us. It was so like Ruth to think ahead long before her battle with cancer and get a $100,000 life insurance policy, with Jumonville named as the beneficiary. It was her way of providing for the place she and Jim loved so much. The family has designated this amazingly generous gift to be used for the swimming pool project. If you have questions, or would like to discuss future gifts to Jumonville, please call the Jumonville office. In camping and retreat ministry we often use the phrase, “Leave things in as good or better shape than you found it.” What a wonderful testimony to Ruth to know that she left this world a better place than she found it. Ruth was a true model of Christian discipleship. Thank you Ruth. While your gift will help many campers for years to come, your Christian witness has helped change lives. We will surely miss you, but we’ll never forget you!
