“Welcome to Jumonville!” is the theme of our new capital campaign that will provide a new entrance to Jumonville as well as other helpful improvements. You may have noticed that the stone archway that stood above Jumonville’s entrance for about 55 years was removed last summer. It has always been difficult for large buses to make the sharp turn and fit under the arch. In addition, some structural and safety issues were discovered that made the decision more urgent. We extend special thanks to all who entered the new Jumonville Entranceway Design Contest. With over 19 entries, the ideas, creativity and love for Jumonville shined through. The sketches and descriptions made it clear that Jumonville’s welcoming hospitality was a high priority, as well as the visual beauty and inspiration that are well-known to all. The staff and Capital Campaign committee reviewed the designs, and selected some of the best ideas from several designs to create a composite that incorporated many special features from all that were submitted. The names of those who submitted designs were, in alphabetical order: Jaye Beatty, Shawn Beatty, Larry Beatty, Franklin Blackstone, Jr., Martha Blackstone, Mei-Ling Blackstone, age 10, Rodney Blackstone, Bob Boyle, Ree Enlow, Emma Evans, Marissa Getty, Samantha Gray, age 11, Marion Grace King, Lisa Lloyd, Mary Meeder, Scott Meeder, Nancy Powell, and Wilma Parrish Trimble. We are very grateful to all who took the time to express their creativity and affection for Jumonville by sending in their designs. |

The Welcome to Jumonville capital campaign features a new 30 foot long, 5 foot high curved stone wall with beautiful new signage and the four flags (located behind the wall) that reflect Jumonville’s history. The new stone entrance will have beautiful landscaping and lighting to help guide our guests who arrive after dark. The cost for this part of the project is $35,000 and Jim & Nancy Gnagey have very graciously offered to donate this work in memory of the son, Scott. One of the other components of the project includes $5,000 for work to clear foliage for a better view of the cross. If you have been to Jumonville in recent years you may have noticed how rare it has become to see the cross from main campus. This new design locates the wall and flags to the right of the former entrance arch, which will allow a great view of the Cross above. It will be a beautiful spot for visitors to Jumonville to take photos with the new entrance sign as a focal point. The sidewalk between the new entrance and Asbury Dining Hall has deteriorated over the years and is in need of replacement at a cost of $5,000. An additional $2,500 is needed for a ramp to the dining hall to better accommodate our guests who use wheelchairs or walkers, or who have difficulty with steps. And finally, $2,500 is needed for new signage for the parking areas to help arriving guests follow the flow of traffic and to find parking areas on campus. We’re excited about how this new project will enhance our ministry of hospitality and help Jumonville to become a more welcoming place. At the time of this writing we are grateful to report that we have $40,000 of the $50,000 needed for this project! If you would like to help, send your gift in the enclosed donor envelope and specify, entrance project or visit our Jumonville website and click on “contribute” in the navigation bar. |
