Cookouts are a fundamental part of camping and are integrated into the program whenever possible. There is some type of cookout for just about every age level. Popular cookouts include Woodsman Stew, Pie Irons, & Hot Dogs.

Some of our younger campers have the opportunity to go rafting on some milder sections of the river. We call this flatwater rafting (as compared to whitewater rafting). We use either Hazelbakers Outfitters for our flatwater rafting trips or we use Whitewater Adventures depending on the event and the age level.

Duckies (or inflatable kayaks) are used on the Middle Youghiogheny River as part of the peddle paddle trips. We start at Ohiopyle State Park and bike along the bike trail for about 10 miles.

Canoeing Canoeing is only included in events that specifically indicate it in their event description. Most of our canoeing is done on a section of the Youghiogheny River from Connellsville to Dawson. We rent our canoes from a professional local outfitter. Use of PFD’s are required in our program regardless of swimming ability.

Archery Ready, aim, let fly! Maybe you’ll hit a bullseye. Jumonville has both archery equipment and a special designated area. Archery is used with a number of summer camps including many sports camps and sampler camps. The equipment is in a locked shed when not in use.
